Grapes and raisins are poisonous to dogs

We all know that we shouldn’t feed our dogs chocolate, but it turns out that a food that we consider healthy has disastrous effects for dogs. Grapes, whether bought from a store, grown at home, or in raisin form, make dogs really sick. Dogs can’t break them down in their digestive systems and too many can even cause kidney failure. Upon swallowing one, dogs will typically vomit the undigested grape or have diarrhea until the grape passes. Symptoms of grape poisoning for a dog include loss of appetite, more diarrhea, lethargy, and abdominal pain. These problems may persist for your poor pooch for weeks after eating the forbidden fruit.

Veterinarians who test dogs after eating grapes have found elevated calcium, nitrogen, creatinine, phosphorous levels in their blood. This indicates that they are developing kidney problems. One really nasty effect of eating grapes is that the dogs produce less urine. When the dogs can’t produce enough urine, they die.
